- 2Select EssentialAfter the trial, go to Settings > Billing and select the Essential plan.
- 3Choose billing periodSelect monthly ($39/seat) or annual ($29/seat). You can switch from monthly to annual later by contacting Intercom billing.
- 4Enter your seat countAdd seats for all agents who will actively respond to customers. Lite seats (view-only) are separate.
- 5Note: cannot downgrade mid-annual termIf you choose annual, you are committed for 12 months. You cannot downgrade to monthly or a lower plan until renewal.

Intercom Essential includes: shared inbox, ticketing system, Fin AI agent ($0.99/resolution), help center (1 center, 1 language), basic automation, messenger widget, and multi-channel inbox. Not included: Advanced Workflows, multiple team inboxes, multilingual help center, or free Lite seats.
Can I pay month-to-month on Essential?
Yes. Essential is the only plan available month-to-month. Advanced and Expert require annual contracts. Month-to-month costs $39/seat vs $29/seat annual (26% premium for flexibility).
What was Essential called before?
